Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff was born May 3rd, 1986.
She was a student at the Cours Florent drama academy in Paris. Her role
includes Loup (2009) and Sleepless Night (2011). She plays the character of
Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
(2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (1999). Pom
Klementieff was the child of two parents: a Korean mother, as well as her
father was French-Russian. Her father was consul in Quebec City, Canada. Eugene
Klementieff was her grandfather. Because it sounded similar to the Korean words
for "spring" or "tiger", her parents gave their daughter
the name Pom. Klementieff was an American citizen for a year. Her family had
traveled extensively due to her father's job. After moving to France she
resided in Japan. Her father, who passed away from cancer at age 5, was her
mother. Also, she was suffering from schizophrenia and was unable to care for
her children. Klementieff was raised with her aunt and paternal uncle. Her
uncle, whom she described as "like [her] father", died at 18 years
old. Her brother, who was older, who committed suicide seven years later, was
also her aunt. Klementieff was able to attend law school following the passing
of her uncle, however she didn't find this job path appealing. She also worked
as salesperson and waitress in France. At the Cours Florent drama academy in
Paris she started her acting career at the age of 19. Within a couple of months
of her studies, she won a theater competition that awarded the opportunity to
take classes for free for two years with the school's best teachers.
Klementieff was first to act professionally in the independent French film
Apres lui (2007). She played the stepdaughter for the protagonist, Catherine
Deneuve. Three days were spent on filming her scenes. One scene had Klementieff
pushing someone down the set steps, and she fell. Gael Morel saved that scene
for the final film. Loup (2009) is an French film about the Siberian reindeer
herders, was her first major role. The film was shot in an isolated camp, which
was a few hours from the closest village. The camp was where temperatures
dropped to zero.
