Lorraine Bracco Biography, Facts and Life Story

Lorraine Bracco (Italian: ['brakko]; born October 2 1954) is an American film and television actress. Known for her distinct high-pitched voice and her distinctive Brooklyn accent She is nominated for an Academy Award, four Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. Born in New York City, she began her modeling career in France and was first seen in Italian-language films during the 1980s. This included Lina Wertmuller's Camorra (1986), which was a film that featured Bracco's then-partner Harvey Keitel. The first film in Bracco's English language was The Pick-Up Artist (1987). It was followed by other roles such such as Someone to Watch Over Me (1987), Sing (89) and The Dream Team (1989). Her character as Karen Hill, the wife of Henry Hill's mob partner was her first big break. She was nominated both for the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for the Golden Globe Award - Motion Picture for Best Supporting Actress. On television, Bracco is best known for her role as Jennifer Melfi, the psychiatrist of Tony Soprano, in the HBO show The Sopranos (1999-2007). For her performance in the initial three seasons of the show she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding Lead Actress In a Drama Series as well as the Golden Globe Award as Best Actress for a Television Series Drama. Beginning with the fourth season her role began to decline somewhat, but towards the conclusion of the series when she was nominated for the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards, she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in the Drama Series.
