Anita Ekberg

Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931-11 January
2015) was an Swedish actress popular for her gorgeous shape and beauty. She was
famous for her character as Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vita
(1960). Ekberg was born in Sweden on the 29th September 1931. She was the sixth
child of eight. When she was in her teens, Anita worked as a fashion model. In
response to the wishes from her mother Ekberg participated in Miss Malmo in
1950. This resulted in her winning the Miss Sweden contest. Even though she
spoke very little English, Ekberg went to the United States to compete for the
Miss Universe 1951 title. This was an non-official pageant at the time. The
pageant was officially made official in 1952. Ekberg was not the Miss Universe
winner, but she was one of six finalist. The contestant did get a contract with
Universal Studios as a starlet. She was an Universal starlet, and was given
lessons in dramatization, elocution
horses, horseback riding, and elocution. She was briefly featured in The
Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello Go to Mars (1953) (playing the
role of a woman in Venus), Take Me to Town (1953), and The Golden Blade (1953).
