Padma Lakshmi Bio
Padma Parvati Lakshmi was born on September 1, 1970 in Chennai, India. Lakshmi's parents divorced at the age of two. Her mother moved to the United States to escape the stigma of divorce in India. Lakshmi stayed with her maternal grandparents in Chennai for two years prior to making the move to the United States. Both of her parents later remarried, and she also has a younger half-brother and half-sister from the father's side. Lakshmi's last name is associated with the Hindu goddess, prosperity and wealth. Her birthplace was in New York and raised in Los Angeles. Each year she returned to India to visit family members for a few more months. Padma Lakshmi first became interested in acting at the age of 29 in 1999. The first film she appeared in was "Figlio of Sandokan" which was a film about the life of an Italian pirate.
